A life in Kemmerer, Wyoming
I started hunting as soon as my mom would let me load up with dad and head on the road. I have lived in Wyoming for my whole life of twenty-three years. I was around 4 years old when I started hunting with my dad at a little higher level even though he had to carry me on his shoulders some of that time. My dad was always surprised at 4 years old the fascination I had with hunting. At that age I ruined a few hunts for him because I always let my dad know I saw a set of legs, so to say the least I wasn't much help for my dad at that age, all the animals seemed to run away. I picked up a bow around five and shot a little cub bow for a few years. I finally got into competitive archery because of my dads support and that lead to many wins for several years. I won many state competitions and then followed that up with a third place national win at eleven years old. "Hoyt Bows”,” Super Scope Sights”, and "True Ball Release" then picked me up as a Staff Shooter and sponsored me for a few years. Then I proceeded to Park City and took a sixth place win at the Junior Olympics competition at fourteen years old.
At twelve years old I was finally able to begin hunting for real which was really exciting for my old man and me. During the first years of hunting my dad gave me a 270 Remington. rifle but I still always seemed to just hunt with a bow. I shot my first two point deer at twelve with my bow and then really had a new desire to hunt. I tried for years to harvest animals with my bow but never seemed to have much luck at least I never seemed to get a shot fired. I had seen tons of animals every year hunting with my dad but it wasn't even about the harvest anymore it was just about the art and satisfaction of being in the wild with family or even by myself. Hunting and Fishing honestly had become an addiction, art, and my stress relief from the rest of the world around me. I met Jim Sessions when I began dating his daughter and this actually brought me a really good relationship with his whole family to this day. I actually shot my first bow antelope with Jim, which was one of the most exciting bow kills I'd ever had. Then met Dean Taylor one of Jim's really good friends and began going hunting with him also. I've learned a lot of new hunting techniques from both of these wonderful friends. I still learn new things every day about ethics, traditions, and honest hard hunting even if it doesn't always produce an animal; just good clean fun with friends and family. I have harvested a few elk, deer, and antelope with a rifle and still have not harvested an elk with a bow. Hopefully one day I will feel that excitement but until then I will just enjoy hunting, and scouting as always.
My dad has owned an Archery and Hunting supply store know as "Wyoming Archery and Hunting Supplies" here in Kemmerer, Wyoming for 7 years now. So it makes my passion a little easier to supply at a local level. Hunting to me is a true art, you have to look past the kill, past how big everything is, and look into how hunting makes your heart beat with desire and fuels your life with a true passion that if respected will always be there for you and your children. So bring your family together and go enjoy the wild. Happy Hunting!
