My name is Mike Schmid, Executive Producer and Co-Host of Intrepid Outdoors. I own and operate an oil and natural gas well servicing business in the little town of LaBarge,Wyoming right smack dab in the middle of some of the finest big game hunting the west and the Rocky Mountains have to offer. This area of this great state offers Elk, Moose, Mule Deer, Bighorn Sheep, Pronghorn Antelope, Black Bears and Mountain Lions.
I also own a cattle ranch and outfitting business in the Black Hills of Wyoming known as Solitude Ranch & Outfitters .This area of Wyoming in addition to the Elk, Mule Deer and Antelope has an incredible amount of Whitetail Deer and Merriam’s Turkey.
As you can probably tell by now I love the outdoors and I love to hunt. It does not matter to me what the species is I choose to pursue or the terrain or environment they inhabit. When my neck starts to swell and you can smell the change in the air out here in late August I know that I will soon be hooking up with good friends and family and making plans to pursue these magnificent animals. For me it’s all about spending time with family and friends, making the plans, the anticipation of leaving for the hunt and even the let down when it is over. Even though filling the tag and capturing it on film is the ultimate goal, it is really a small piece of the total experience.
My experience with outdoor filming is limited with only about four years behind me. This may sound like quite a bit of time, but with running my businesses it doesn’t allow me to spend much time behind the camera. I have had for some time the desire to start a hunting show. I have watched these shows for years and have become increasingly disappointed in them. I get tired of watching people that seem to be full of themselves and think or act like these shows could be their pathway to fame and fortune in Hollywood, or couples that are more interested in being comedians and putting their face on camera rather than the big buck or bull I would much rather see.
It is for this reason that I have teamed up with Bob, Jim and Dean. These guys have the same interest and love of the outdoors as I do and a desire to put a show out that caters to the real outdoorsman and the everyday average hunter. With our show we want to bring the viewers what we feel has been lost in most of the outdoor programming, ACTUAL HUNTING!! with footage highlighting not only the beauty of the animals we pursue, but the country they inhabit. We are really excited about our “Get a child in the Wild” segment which will feature a young hunter or fisherman and their experiences in the outdoors. We all feel this is so important to get our youngsters outdoors and keep our hunting and outdoor lifestyle alive.
What we hope to give you with Intrepid Outdoors is true outdoor entertainment full of quality wildlife and outdoor videography, over the shoulder action shots capturing the true emotions of the hunter, young hunters experiencing the outdoors, many of them for the first time, and bottom line just a bunch of good folks doing what they love to do!!
